Experience the magic of Winter Solstice at Newgrange, December 21st 2015

Experience the magic of Winter Solstice at Newgrange, December 21st 2015

Experience the magic of Winter Solstice at Newgrange, December 21st 2015 The magic of the winter solstice has been mostly forgotten in our modern world, not so though at Newgrange where it is celebrated between 18-23 December 2015 on the beautiful background of County Meath. Hire a bus for you and your family and friends and come to Newgrange to experience the winter dawn in a special way. Access to the monument on the day of the winter solstice itself on 21 December is decided by a lottery, however the chamber will be open to the public on the three days before and after in the early hours as well and admission will be free. The site belongs to the neolithic period and was built between 3000 and 2500 BC, which makes it older than Stongehenge in England and the pyramids in Egypt. Winter Solstice – Winter dawn Though historians haven’t found evidence as to its original purpose, the most likely is a religious interpretation because the inner chambers is only penetrated by direct sunlight on the winter solstice and the few days before and after. The circular mound has a stone passageway that leads into the interior chambers, and might have been used as a passage tomb such as its sibling structures the mounds of Knowth and Dowth, Bryn Celli Ddu in Wales and Maeshowe in Scotland. Hire a bus for you and your group to get you there and back in comfort without having to worry about parking. Experience the incredible spectacle of the winter solstice at magical Newgrange! If you would like to bring your group to see...
